Randall & Sid;Another area which you might investigate to help eliminate this
problem is to remove the spring loaded pressure plate that keeps the film
pressed against the film rail while its being exposed. This is a simple process
on the OM-1 since the spring steel tabs slip over posts on the camera back.
(While you're at it check the rails for corrosion.)
I experienced apparent focus problems as you described too. I found that my
OM-1, being as old as it is, needed these spring steel pieces re-tensioned. I
applied pressure to bend the springs back to their original position and
replaced the pressure plate on the camera back.
What this does it cause a higher tension on the film between the film rail and
the pressure plate. It also assures the film is being held evenly around the
total parameter of the frame. The additional tension/drag also keeps the film
aligned and there's no need to back wind because of the snug fit. Try this out
if you occasionally forget to back wind.I have not had any additional focus
problems of this type. Now my own focusing is another matter! Hope you find
this suggestion helpful...joe :-}--
