He has created a very unique method of assigning what he calls an "fx value"
to all deep sky and planetary objects. Based on each object's FX value, he
has created a chart that quickly and accurately figures the time of exposure
needed. It will take into account your film speed, f ratio, and filters if
applicable. I have found this book absolutely indespensible.
It sells for $19.95 and its available from Wilman-Bell, Inc. (804-320-7016)
  give it a try.

I concur with Wayne's evaluation. If you can learn to use.......and if you
keep a copy of the main chart handy, good exposure times can be calculated
very quickly.
