Mike, check out this URL: http://www.cs.uiowa.edu/~jones/step to se
how stepper motors work. The six wires are all used. (Two are
probably identical - serving as ground/common to two sets of coils.)
I'm betting that your type works when the four coils in the motor are
energized in sequence (like a four cylinder motor). The rate at
which you energize the individual coils determines the rate of
stepping.

PS. What are the colors of the six wires? That alone may help us
determine the proper sequence to hook them up in.
