[APML]: Using 8" SCT as telephoto

In addition to using my recently purchased Celestron 8" (orange
tube) scope for astrophotography, I want to use it during the day
as a telephoto too.  Like for a surfing championship coming up
this week in Huntington Beach.  I'm curious if any of you have
experience doing this and if there are any tips on doing so - what
I'm getting at here is that maybe if you were to use a fast film,
there might be enough latitude to "stop down" the "lense" and gain
sharpness as a result.  How would this best be accomplished?  I
have a 500mm Nikon Cat. lense that uses neutral density filters to
cut down the gathering power but this wouldn't affect the sharpness.
