Ladies & Gents,

I have a real stupid question!
With an EQ mount does the Dec motor run while tracking?
Or, is it used just for adjustments.
Makes sense if polar aligned that RA would be the only one running! Right?
The reason I ask is that while tracking I'm getting Easterly drift.
The maker of the mount suggested tearing it down to check gear wear and for
burrs!
It's the Orion EQ3 mount. Did a complete tear down and found nothing major
other then not enough grease on the tapered roller bearings. That and a
whole lotta slop between drive shaft & gears!!!!!!
I was running just the mount and noticed that the Dec motor wasn't running
unless controller buttons were pushed!
Then was stupid enough to write to Orion about the problem........LOL
There response was it doesn't run but for adjustments? And now that I think
about it!   LOL
Can someone maybe give a reason for the easterly drift??????
