Here are a few place you can go:
First, there are a few introductory articles on the
Cloudy Nights web site: http://tinyurl.com/dp5zd
There is also a "prime focus film astrophotography
primer" on the Cloudy Nights Film Astrophotography
forum: http://tinyurl.com/8uqph
Then there is Jerry Lodriguss' site (I'm sure modesty
would prevent him from suggesting it himself):
http://www.astropix.com/INDEX.HTM
Look under the links "Astrophotography Articles,"
and "Digital Processing."
Finally, since I'm NOT particularly modest, I'll
direct you to some tutorial-style articles I have
either written myself or edited for my astronomy
club's newsletter. Instead of listing them all, I'll
just point you to a posting I made on the
aforementioned Cloudy Nights forum that gives the
details: http://tinyurl.com/b2vbj
(Note that the summer 2005 issue containing the second
part of Brady Johson's DSLR article has now been
published.) Some of the material is a bit dated. For
example, my article on prime-focus astrophotography
describes how to guide manually through an off-axis
guider. However, it should still give you a good idea
of the general techniques involved.
It may seem a little presumptious of me to be writing
articles about astrophotography when there are so many
true experts right here on APML with far more
experience and skill. But I've simply written about
what I've learned so far in the field. And writing
itself is something I do know well.
