Thanks Bill.

I was actually suspicious (after the fact, of course) that this might be
the case which is why I included it in my notes.

The 300mm is the only lens I have at present, and it falls into the
intermediate range---I think it's a bit too big to leave unsupported and
marginal for supporting it alone since it's not very long.  But I'm going
to try the latter.  Among other things, I hope to be able to then rotate
the camera body to frame things as I prefer.

There is a bit of give at the bayonet mount, at least compared to what I'm
used to with my 35mm Pentaxes, so I've dropped the camera off at a shop
for an inspection.  The technician who handles these is off today or I
would have already had an assessment.
