[APML] Tube Rings and Rigidity
I'm looking at getting tube rings with flats on the top to be able to
stack things vertically a bit more. My recent outing gave me some first
hand experience with why everyone here recommends this---I spread things
out horizontally and discovered the extra difficulties asocciated with
now trying to balance in three dimensions.
My guide scope is an Orion 120ST, I'm not doing any prime focus work,
everything is cameras. I've got a Pentax 67, two 35mm SLRs and on 35mm
DSLR (modified Canon 350D) with a mini-Borg 45ED. Okay, I guess that
one is at prime focus, but it feels more like a telephoto.
I figured I would mount the Pentax 67 directly above the Orion 120ST.
I'm wondering if anyone here owns this scope and knows what stock tube
rings will work. The Orion rings are too flimsy for this, and they are
nominally 116mm ID while all the more beefy ones I can find (Williams,
Hutech) are 115mm ID. I may just call the folks at Anacortes who seem
to sell all of these rings and see what they think....
regards,
roland
