All kidding aside, I've heard much mention of this technique and it sure would be cool to pull the stars into a layer and process them as stars then blend them back into the layer that has everything else. Sounds too good to be true - probably complex as all get out. Still, weirder stuff has turned into standard processing technique.
 
Anyway, this shouldn't distract from the real point which is that it is an amazing shot!

i usually don't fret over the star colors and go for the nebulosity instead. i keep thinking that i should try the "splice in the RGB stars" trick trick sometime but haven't thus far.
 
I have been considering getting continuum filters and simply remove the stars altogether to end the debate once and for all <vbg>
