Re: [APML] A metric question

Reading the other responses, it would appear that in any case, there is
very little difference between the standard continental metric photo
sizes (in cm) and the standard UK/Ireland imperial photo sizes (in
inches). Every size given has a standard equivalent which is within +/-
2-3 mm. This small tolerance would surely be accomodated in the covered
border area of any picture frame.

Ie.:
9x13 cm = 3.5 x 5 inch
10x15cm = 6 x 4 inch
13x18cm = 5 x 7 inch
20x25cm = 8 x 10 inch

...and so on.

As to why the UK keeps using imperial sizes, they invented them and they
are a stubbornly independent lot! (;-))

And as to why we keep using them in Ireland, we don't share the UK's
emotional baggage about its traditional stuff, but we are pragmatic and
use whatever is most cheaply sourced from our nearest and biggest
trading partner. Hats off to our friends in the UK!

Ireland is now the UK's 5th largest trading partner" Butler
