Re: [APML] M31 pentax67 e200 FSQ-106...
Jeff,
Tony Hallas has a wonderful M31 on his site, but I didn't see the
details; it looks and "feels" like a film shot -- he does some CCD
(remember his jaw-dropping NGC7331?) but I don't think he does for wide
field yet. Drop him a line and see what he used. (Or maybe he'll chime in
with his advice.)

Couple comments on your insightful comments...
First.. what good insight.. I hadnt considered other
films.
Provia400f on M31 just didnt seem to be very good at
all.
It may have been too short of an exposure.

One thing I did was to do the scanning and stretching
on 16 bit data, then knock it down to 8 bit. I think
this
helped, but there is definitely still some grain. I
also
added a tiny bit of unsharp masking.

I'm still trying to figure out how to combine a _big_
image set.
e.g. 6kx5k pixels. The current machine is 512mb, and
it
has a tough time with the 6x7 2400dpi scans.
I'm definetely going to be capturing more M31 images
for combining, etc. I'll likely experiment with other
films... its possible that some of the non-nebula film
might be good on the galaxy.
