RE: [APML] Confirmation of TP end of life?
Ray,
I think you have a valid point as it is applied to the general photographer.
It is after all one of the reasons digital is succeeding. There however
is a population out there who will want to use film for their "canvas"
because of the artistic qualities not available in digital. Remember how
large format was going to disappear? There is still a population out there
using 4x5 however. And on top of everything else, I can still go to my
hobby store and buy a good set of paint brushes, etc. The reason why I
think down the road a 35mm camera will cost bucks is because of DLSRs
becoming the norm.
Though it is frustrating at times (TP / Konica both gone the same week), I
also look forward to the challenges that are coming. This is not the time
to abandon, but it is the time to become better acquainted with the film
makers out there and to establish good dialogs with them.
Dave
PS: I too own some digital. A Olympus Point and shoot and a Nikon DLSR.
Digital has its merits and I have gotten some very nice landscapes through
it but I still enjoy film. It must be the smell of D19 in the morning...

I tend to disagree with your last statement, with the constant
advancements in sensor technology DSLR's will be the norm. The cost will
drop by at least 60% and the resolution will increase by a factor of two
over the next three to five years. I think that you will find that
people will stick with their DSLR's. Partly due to the instant
gratification capability. Many people cannot grasp the non WYSIWYG of
film and are distraught when their sunset shots don't look the same as
what they saw when deveoped a week or two later when they get back from
vacation. Ever notice how all new SLR's (pretty much all) have a built
in flash and no one buys off board flashes, one package must contain
everything.
