Re: [APML] Confirmation of TP end of life?
Gentlemen,
I have confirmed from Kodak that this is indeed true and have pondered
the consequences of this for a few days. This has given me a lot of
cause for thought because to be honest the *easy* solution of CCD just
doesn't work for me. There are many applications where CCD will never
be retrofitted to some equipment. There are plenty of B&W films on the
market and why Kodak decided to select Tech Pan is anybody's guess. But
the decision appears to be economic rather than environmental or other
reasons. With that being said there may be some hope that Kodak could be
convinced to handle it as a "niche" film and continue production in some
manner. I would hope that those on this list will take a few minutes of
their time to contact Kodak and express displeasure with this
announcement. Perhaps Kodak could be convinced to continue it and double
the price ? Perhaps they could sell it to a distributor who could market
it ? There are alternatives to simply letting it go the way of the
Dinosaur. If everyone on this list pursues this with a little vigor then
perhaps there is hope. There will be no alternative emulsions for *all*
Schmidt Camera owners. Anyone doing Widefield Medium Format work using
4x5 film will have nothing either. Its not a problem of owning
expensive devices that will no longer be useful (Schmidt Camera(s) with
a medium format film holder and Pentax 6x7) but the joy of using these
to capture the unique beauty that is our night sky My guess is that
everyone here suffers from this affliction so please take the time to
try and effect some change to Kodak's proposed plan Remember that E200
could be next ? Then what ?
