RE: [APML] Confirmation of TP end of life?
Kodak, and the others, have been so busy 'improving' their films and
discontinuing emulsions that you can't get calibrated anyway. ... can't get
a full spectrum image; can't get the same emulsion twice; ...
Maybe digital is becoming the easier route to follow! No reciprocity; wider
available spectrum; consistent exposures, year after year (maybe a little
drift, but ...) Affordable resolution is here now, or soon will be,
depending on your definition, ...

market saturation is one big issue. For example, I have a 20 year
old Nikon 35mm camera that works as good as the day it was bought brand
new. Conversely, if you go out today and buy a top of th eline digitla
camera (Nikon or any brand), odds are, within 2, maybe three years, you
will be buying another one.
Even if the rate of technical improvement of digital imaging slows
down, you will be in the same situation fo somebody with a 3 to 4 your old
computer - no parts available to repair old parts, or conversely, the cost
of parts will be higher than the cost of th enew camera. I have a
perfectly good, 3 year old cell phone, but the rechargable batteries are
going. The cost of new batteries is much higher than the cost of a new
cell phone.
So it's market forces, IMO, that force the hand of companies here.
