With care, you should not have much problem with scratches/static. I used to
have problems with scratches/dust when I was cutting my chips for my 5.5"
Schmidt back in the 70's (using un-hypered SO 410 back then), but have had
very few such problems when loading onto a reel for hypering. I have bulk
loaded *many* Tech Pan rolls for hypering (in fact, I have never bought Tech
Pan in less than 150 foot rolls), and rarely have marks that can be
attributed to loading. More often I get static marks, which may be from
subsequent handling in the field (like very dry, windy conditions)

I have always kept my bulk rolls in the freezer (in a bulk loader, once the
carton was opened) in a single ziplock bag (I forget if I bagged them
*before* ziplock bags <g>). With "fresh" film it should last for at least 18
months (un-hypered) with no *noticeable* degradation.
