OT:Re: [APML] July Blues in the July Sky
It may very well be of Scots origin. It has been RAF lingo since at
least the 50's and became part of my vocabulary doing flight trials on
Nimrods based in Inverness out over the North Sea. The aircraft
commander would announce that we "Are going into the clag" and we would
drop from our transit altitude of 10,000 feet down to 500-700 feet
depending on the cloud ceiling and play around down there for five or
six hours.
Possibly one of our UK members can tell us which half of the kingdom it
came from (I know it isn't Welsh, it has a vowel).
