Re: [APML] Vixen VC200L for film Astrophotos

Allan,
I would suspect that the GM8 would be taxed by the load and would also
limit your growth in the future. A used G-11 isn't much more dinero, but it
is way more mount. A stable mount is key to this hobby, probably more
important than the optics. There are a few R200SS users on the list, I think
that they are also using the Vixen rings. Perhaps one of them can offer some
first-hand comments?

Thanks to everyone that responded. Of course John's mention of the
R200ss now has me thinking. Since I have nearly a three hour drive to a
decent area to take photos the faster optics would add up to a lot more
pictures......

With regard to the R200ss would a Losmandy GM8 be enough mount to
handle this scope including a guide scope, mounting rings, camera, ST4,
etc. By my calculations, I'd be coming in around 25 lbs and the GM8 is
rated to 30. The GPDX Vixen sells with the scope is only rated to 21
pounds so I'm thinking picking up a used GM8 on Astromart is the better
way to go - cheaper too.

Also, are the accessory mount rings sold by Vixen satisfactory for
using the guide scope with an ST4 and avoiding flexure induced guiding
errors - or would I need a different setup?

I really appreciate everyones input!

Allan
