Re: [APML] Pushing & Mars

Nice processing Geoff!

In closing, I would definitely like to see the results of film-based
attempts by this group on Mars during this favorable period. DSOs and
wide-field shots are most definitely the predominant focus here on the
list, but we have many talented people who probably have the skills and
smarts to take advantage of this opportunity, shift focus (pun intended)
and break some new ground on film-based planetary imaging.

Any takers?

Uhmmm... you mean this one? < http://groups.yahoo.com/group/marsobservers/
>
... surf this one myself... just because the web-cam is most popular from
the
economy standpoint does not mean it's the most effective tool for the
job...
just the most affordable! ;-) I still perfer the ultimate resolution of the

tri-color CCD stuff. Remember, too... :::APERETURE RULES::: a web-cam shot
through a 20" scope with a $90.00 ToUcam *should* exceed an ST-5 shot with
an
8" SCT... apples to apples! :O)

Here's some work I've done with the newly formed AtlantaAstroImaging
group... I've merely *processed* these images... their captors are credited

on the pages... first, the pick of the litter... CCD shots... see:

    http://home.att.net/~astropix/Larry_s_Mars_images_03_opposition.html

(details are linked on the above page) Next, have a look at a web-cam
shot...
through a 20" Newtie... see it here:

              http://home.att.net/~astropix/Chris_H_Mars7.html

... what I enjoyed most from this web-cam shot was how the clouds and
ground
fog jumped out of the Planet's entire northern hemisphere after processing!

Too bad the web-cam pic was a little soft on focus. I could go through the
marsobserver list and find similar comparsions, but as you noted... this is
a
film list.

 Best...
