I tend to agree that the webcam makes it easier to shoot the planets, but
for those who don't have a webcam and a computer shooting the planets with
film can be done, especially if the seeing conditions permit.

The planets are bright enough that film speed isn't really that big of an
issue. Where it does come into play relates to your seeing conditions.
If seeing is steady, shoot with the slower film and prefer the finer grain
usually associated with slower films. If the seeing is not so good you
will want to shoot shorter exposures and that usually means a faster film.
Catching the planets on film takes time and patience. Try bracketing
your exposures, experiment. Don't be shy about shooting lots of rolls of
film and don't be surprised if you only get one or two keepers per several
rolls of film...but hey, film is cheap <g>.
