In the past there have been people on APML who have been somewhat
suprised to learn that in Canada, we hate aurora! I have finally scanned an
image that I think illustrates why this is so. It was taken during the last
auroral peak, 11 years ago. It was an all-sky aurora, and by some miracle I
happened to have my 28mm lens with me. I had planned on shooting some nebula
in Monoceros at prime focus, which was impossible.
The picture shows aurora south or Orion, while an observer valiantly
attempts to observe M65/66 in a 4" refractor.

are here: http://members.shaw.ca/jmirtle/solarsys.htm Now imagine that this
was the first night warm/clear enough to shoot in 3 months, and maybe you
can understand my grumblings! And yes, the aurora was blue.
