Re: [APML] Off Topic- Pop Up Instant Messages
you need to disable a "feature" of windows xp to get rid of these, here is
how its done:
To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger
Service", click Start, then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll
down to "Messenger", select it, right-click and then choose Properties.
Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then choose the 'Stop' button.
After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any
real third-party applications should be effected by this.
its basically a way to send messages to other people on the network, as in
an office.. but internet spammers abuse it once they get hold of your IP
address.
Note that this applies only to those grey boxes that say "Messenger
Service" in the title bar. Quite irritating.
