Re: [APML] EQ6 Mount
Philippe, saw one other reply so here's my 2 cents. All the reviews of
the EQ6 are not flattering to it. Best to avoid. At that price point,
most of the suggestions in the post from Dwight are great if you have
the funds but I would guess that if you're looking at the EQ6 then an
AP1200 is a little out of reach.
This is what I learned the hard way and partly what Dwight was driving
at I think:
Go for quality even if it can't carry a big load, better a weight
limited fine instrument than a beast that can't do the job at any
weight. Also, don't buy a mount (like the EQ6) that won't accept an
autoguider. This by the way rules out the GP and GP-DX unless you
upgrade to a wopping expensive controller which I think costs more than
the GP mount does. My vote is a Losmandy GM-8 but if you trawl (?) on
Astromart you'll see some fine instruments going for good prices (an
AP800 is there now at a good price).
So - quality and autoguider capable. My vote.
