Yes, all comments to the subject should go directly to the poster instead of
the group, although I am guilty of posting responses on list.
Just out of curiosity, I did a search in the archives with the subject line
of ccd vs film and came up with an increasing # of posts each year.
Wow...dating all the way back to 96 and 97 being the lowest in #.

I really dont remember how I found apml, I think it was a link on someones
website, but I was informed that I should start with a barndoor mount.
Those were the good ole days..hard work and great intensions for a
newbie..the feeling was crisp and honest to getting the most out of learning
the limits of that thing.

I remember aching for huge aperature and long focal length, but those were
far out of my budget...still are.

I still have some of my old pictures taken with the barndoor and am proud to
say those were some of my best nights out in the field.
There is nothing that can beat the excitement that a newbie feels.

Ive gotta get it out again and try it sometime

I also remember seeing a post on someones website saying that ccd was the
only feasable way to start astrophotography and film was too expensive.
Lol...thats enough to discourage the pope!
What is wrong with people wanting to shoo film under the rug?

You are right...I seen a survey today on whether film would be taken out of
the market entirely to make way for digital cameras and the likes and so
far, the votes are a thousand to a hundred that film will stand the test of
time with the current count being somewhere around 5000 something.

This is a good thing because those votes are more then likely those who use
film and they demand it which in turn makes a market value.
