RE: [APML] CCD on APML (was: NGC 7331)

The reason i read this list (and very occasionally post on it) is that i
value the opinion of it's members about astrophotgraphy (no matter what
the medium is). I don't mind seeing ccd posts - in fact i enjoy them. One
of reasons for this is that since the charter doesn't allow ccd posts,
people only 'bend' the rules when they think they have a truly remarkable
image. I woulnd't like this to change.

Another thing to consider is that before the ccd thing came about, APML's
membership was at the cutting edge of astrophotography; Now the medium of
choice is changing - not allowing for the change will change the list from
a 'leading' list to a 'niche' list; i wouldn't like that to happen.

Yet another thing: Some of the people that are going to the dark side have
many years of experience with film. Their answers to film-related
questions are sure to be of great value. But if the list does not allow
them to participate with their current work, they will lose interest and
look elsewhere. I don't think that even a film-only guy will gain from
this.

The list is now in a very particular (and favourable) situation. The
charter limits the amount of mediocre ccd work we see, but we still get to
be at the leading edge of astrophotography. So my vote will be to not
change the charter, but be tolerant when we're being shown truly
remarcable ccd work.

My 2 lei (worth about 0.006 cents).
