[APML] Re: CCD vs. Film
Hi all,
Well, everybody else chimed in so I'll give you my
opinion. I'm fairly new to this list, having posted
only a few barn door shots, so take my words with a
grain of salt.
I'd like to point out that of the distinct threads
that are started on this list, a great many reference
CCD images. Possibly even half. Many start as links
to a film shot, but quickly move to a discussion of
digital processing techniques, which, as far as I can
tell, are the same no matter the medium.
I'm planning my progression in this hobby to go like
this:
1) Barn door shots using my OM-1, to learn the basics
and have some fun while keeping it affordable.
3) Piggy back shots.
2) Self guided shots using the OM-1 through either an
8" SCT or a 4" APO, with an off-axis guider.
4) Autoguided CCD images.
And just because I finally get to the point where I
have paid my dues (and my dollars) to reach #4 doesn't
mean I'll stop doing 1, 2 and 3. They are all
basically the same thing, discussed using the same
vocabulary and enjoyed by the same set of enthusiasts.
I don't think I should be under some gag rule not to
discuss CCD on this list, I mean, it's just pixels --
creating a barrier between film and CCD
astrophotography is splitting a mighty fine hair.
Yes, there are things film can do that CCD can't. And
there are things CCD can do that film can't. And
there is a very large area in the middle where they
are practically indistinguishable. It's the same
hobby, regardless of medium, and this list is in a
prime position to be the online hub for all styles of
AP.
How hard is it to edit a charter?
