Re: [APML] CCD on APML (was: NGC 7331)
My GBP0.02 FWIW
I joined this list to learn about "astrophotography" - the fact that it was
film based didn't really occur to me. I use both film (learning) and ccd
(still learning).
I found the APML by searching for web resources on "astrophotography", not
for "film astrophotraphy".
I belong to several other ccd related groups but, forgive me for saying, I
personally think they lack the "soul" that this list has. Not that there
aren't some excellent posts on other groups, I think it's because the medium
of ccd is so new.
The experiences of some of the more well known imagers on this list have
been an inspiration to me (and I guess many others) with both my film and
ccd imaging attempts. What makes all of these lists special is that so many
people are prepred to give hints/advice freely. This advice is evident on
other groups, but ccd experience has been gained over a relatively short
period of time compared to film imaging, and I think that it shows.
It's also nice when J.Doe posts a picture taken with a box Brownie of the
Mily Way, and instead of being ridiculed for even contemplating the post in
the first place, is given hints and advice on how to improve the next set of
pictures.
I for one have enjoyed the posts from Gendler, Hallas et all regarding ccd
imaging, as I enjoy the posts from the guys who do only film. I really
don't see the big deal in having these posts as I believe they benefit us
all at the end of the day.
I'm sure I'm not alone in my experiences. There must be a lot of "would be"
imagers on this list who use both mediums.
At the end of the day, all you guys get the "thumbs up" for your willingness
to contribute to this hobby and for the encouragement you show to us
"newbies"
Sory to ramble on
