I've never used a GEG, so I don't know the difficulties involved with
it. I use a Taurus Tracker III. One advantage it has is having helical
ports so the view and guide ports can be made permanently parfocal with
the camera. All that I have to do is focus through a normal eyepiece
and hope there is no focus shift...:-), well, you know how that goes. I
do use the mirror locking bolt but that doesn't get rid of everything;
such as mirror, or OTA contaction.
One drawback is that it doesn't have the reducing capabilities that the
Lumicon models have. I do have a f/6.5 reducer for it but I almost
always shoot at the full focal length of my 12" LX200. After all,
that's one of the reasons I bought it. Longer exposures, so what. We've
got autoguiders, right?
Seeing as you're using the same equipment and film as I use, let me
offer this: don't be afraid to shoot for several hours. The Supra will
keep soaking up light for up to 5 hours at f/10 (adjust for your
f/ratio).
