Thanks for the replies on this.  And the verdict is......DUH!  Oil wells in
the Permian Baisin.  Cripes!  A no brainer.  I'm from Texas.  I shudda
known!  I never realized the oil field up there was THAT big.  The photo was
taken from 34,000 feet with a digital equivalent of a 135 mm on a 35 mm
camera and the field of view is maybe 0.1 to 0.5 % of the entire span of the
patterns on the ground.  Like I said, it was at least 100 miles across.  It
was quite amazing.  Something that extended should be visible from space, at
least as a contrast feature.

Now back to astrophotography.....thanks!
