RE: [APML] Was G11 Tracking problem (double star)

Kirk,

First off, I will agree with you that this is a very aggravating hobby!

But.... What exactly doesn't work as "advertised?"

You seemed pretty happy with the mount considering the statement on your
web-page "I owned a Losmandy G11 which provided good imaging results."

I am not trying to pound on you, but this seems pretty disingenuous.

Seems like a lot of BS is going on here in this thread.....

I started doing astrophotography with a 78' C-8... I guided manually
(meaning I adjusted rate with my thumb and forefinger!. It cost me nearly
$2k and I rarely got results I was happy with.

The G-11 is a fine value and my experience with customer support is vastly
superior to any other major manufacture of astronomy equipment in this price
range. Scott... You da'man!!!

Perhaps you would like someone else to take pictures for you? The endeavor
of astrophotography has never been easy with any mount. It has always been
challenging.

I have been overjoyed by the performance/value/support of my G-11 (though to
be frank, I dislike the moderate backlash and occasional cable snags).

Most of the problems experienced by G-11 users (especially Gemini users)
have been user errors... Period. (Myself included)

I just think a little perspective is in order - The G-11 is a very good
value.

BTW... My first color CCD image with a stock G-11

There are small guiding errors here... But they are my fault!

Greg:

I think we all agree that buying any piece of astronomy equipment and having
an experience as you're describing is enough to aggravate anyone and then
some. People get out of astronomy over these problems. I've certainly paid
my dues with this type of issue and hope never to again. The G11 experience
overall is an unusual one with user comments widely varied. You're correct,
$1,900 +/- is no bargain for anything if it doesn't work as advertised.

listen to the reviews of mounts on here (as I did) and from that
listening think that this is a mount you can buy and use for $1900ish
dollars.<
