Bert,

1. To me the Perseids were rather light. I was at OSP
last week and seems like the pre-show was pretty good
and led one to believe that the peak was gonna be
great.
We saw most before midnite. My son counted about 75
from about 9:00 to 11:00 while glancing from time to
time in my 8" SCT at deepsky stuff. I don't think it
was much stronger than that after.

2. I remember seeing Galen Rowell give a presentation
in Helena, Mt. around '78,'79 . It was on
circum-navigating Denali on Epoke 900 x-c skiis. He
was the hero of many backcountry skiers of the time
and probably the single greatest reason that those
skiis became so popular for backcountry (pre-metal
edge era)skiing. I still have mine. A great guy and
will be missed.
