Re: [APML] OSP Report

Roland,

The seeing one night was very close to a 10... we viewed planetaries at 800 X and beyond... Saturn in the AM was gorgeous. The site sits on a high plateau with drainage on all sides... typically the seeing improved all night long. The other nights I would rate around an 8. This place is so much better than FLA that it's like comparing one of your scopes to a Sears special... you cannot imagine M31 from a place like this so I will describe some of what I saw in Tom O's 22"... the dust lanes were jet black lines pasted on a white background... the dust lanes showed intricate detail radiating out from their centers... tracing them over to the left you came to the blue star cloud which was lit up like a piece of the Milky Way... the dust lanes curved around to the right and beyond them the glow of the galaxy kept extending outwards for quite a ways. It is the first time in my life that I have seen visually many of the features that show up in my image... I have seen M31 many times in many different "famous" places... nothing was like this. OSP rules! : - )
