[APML] OSP Report
Hey all,
There were many in our local club worried about smoke
conditions at OSP this year, actually I was too. Some
did not go 'cause of that. Well, they made a big
mistake. Wed. and Fri. nights were the best I've seen,
and Thurs. and Sat. night were right behind. Now, if
only the RG 400 I used every night turns out OK.
Our storage batteries in the RV went dead friday
morning so we were without water and lights for 2
days. The engine battery died when we stopped in
Gilchrist yesterday on the way home. Luckily, I had a
partly charged spare to get us home.
I have been a member of APML and MAPUG for 2 1/2
years, and a member of SBIG users (lurking and mostly
inactive) for a year. I had never met another member
of any of those lists until last week. Jeff Allen
(APML) was camped right behind us for 4 days. Jeff,
thanks for handling the craziness so well. Got to say
'hey' to Tony Hallas too. We went to Ron Wodaski's
talk friday evening and I finally got to see in person
an expert do some processing in Photoshop. His talk
was not nearly long enough, so I tracked him down and
bought a copy of his book from him. Tony, I wanted to
purchase one of your prints but Ron's book used up all
my extra cash. Cindy did pick up one of your Milkw Way
shots on Saturday though. I figured Ron's book (The
New CCD Astronomy) would be the last place I'd see one
of Tony's shots, but guess what? Yep, right on the
front cover. Anyway, it was a pleasure to make these
acquaintances and it's great to be back home... under
smoky skies still.
Alan
