Re: [APML] Suggestions on Sturdy Piggyback Setup for Celestron C-8

I used the Losmandy system and it worked quite well.  I like to mount my lenses like my guide telescope -- between two 3-screw rings.  The camera body hangs off the rear of the lens, just like it does for prime focus work.  If you have a tripod socket hole on your lens, then you can add further support with an additional simple Losmandy camera mount on the lens' tripod socket.  Either system allows one to move the camera/lens (with internal focus) in RA, declination and axially.  The rings are mounted on a Losmandy dove-tail plate which allows one to move the camera system for balance.  If you want you can use the Bogen tripod head on a Losmandy dove-tail plate or use the system that Joe Schaefer uses.  The Bogen tripod system is very user-friendly and works well for short exposures.   However, I did note some flexure effects with long exposures (e.g. 40 minutes).

Subject: [APML] Suggestions on Sturdy Piggyback Setup for Celestron C-8

To all,

I've been looking for an excellent piggyback mount for my Celestron Super C-8 (bought in 1980).  The one I have has NO adjustments.  The ideal camera mount would allow all possible compositions without camera slippage.  It would also have to possess the capability to mount/slide it to the front of the scope (for wide angle lenses) and to the rear of the scope (for telephoto lenses).  Finally, it must be able to hold a Pentax 67 with lens.  Currently, my largest lens is the 165 f2.8, but I hope to purchase the 300 mm f4.0 in the future.  Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
