Technically, there are camera lenses in AP quality, IMO, but you
are also paying AP prices (or greater) too. For example, I read on another
photo mailing list a couple years ago about a specialty lens Nikon made
(105mm I think?) that was apparently fully apochromatic, not only in the
three visible light, but also into either UV or IR by a coupel hundred
anaonmeters, so you could say it was a colour crossing lens. I forget the
exact price at the time, but I remember thinking to myself at that time the
cost of this little 105mm lens - about the size of a man's fist - was about
the same as a brand new Dodge Neon. :) There are other examples i can
think off too, but noen of them are easily found in the average camea
store, and none of them are cheap.
More realistically, and more accurate to the point you made, I
would have to agree - let's say for sake of argument, you just won a
lottery, and money was no object, the quesiton them becomes - where do you
find such a lens? I am not sure such an animal - that is, an "off the
shelf" lens even exists. At least no suitable for this kind of work. I
know of some large format camera lenses that optically would fit the bill,
but have an image circle to cover 5x7 or 8x10 inch sheet film, and maybe
that's a wee bit too big. :)
The only problem is, as I see it, if you do convince Rolland to
add such a lens to his arsenal of items for sale, isn't that going to add
another year (or three) to his waiting list?
:)
