[APML] Photosmart scanner SCSI card not recognized by Win98

Hi;

I have been using Photosmart (the original) scanner for quite a number 
of years.  I had it first installed on Win95, and then I upgraded to 
Win98 2 years ago.  Everything worked fine even then.

I recently had Cable Modem installed and while that was being done, the 
cable serviceperson went ahead and installed some patches(?) or service 
packs (?) on Win98 to clean up some problems he was seeing ("SaveAs" 
dialog was not coming up on web pages).  Since then, my SCSI card is not 
being recognized by Win98.

I dont know what was installed on my machine.  I tried reinstalling the 
driver, even tried another card.  But, I still get the same error that 
the card is not there or there is something wrong with the driver.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this.  Short of reloading the 
OS, is there any elegant solution to this?
