Re: [APML] NEW SprintScan 35 mechanical fix

This may be of interest to heavy users of the SprintScan 35 Plus.
You may recall that last Friday I e-mailed the group requesting suggestions
for my Sprintscan 35+, which had gotten the negative/slide carrier mechanism
locked into an "always downward motion" hangup. Getting no responses, and
finding nothing about it in the troubleshooting sections of the manuals, I
looked inside the front by taking off the front panel (the one that has to
be removed to change the light bulb). (After removing the power cord, of
course!)
About a centimeter behind the negative carrier, on the right, there is a
vertical lead screw that drives the carrier up and down. Of course, the
carrier at this point was all the way down as far as it could go. It turns
out that this lead screw can be turned by hand. Firmly grip the screw (it
helps to have long fingers!) and turn it so that it moves the carrier in the
direction you want to make it go. I gently cranked the screw till it had
raised the carrier all the way to the top of its travel. I then placed the
cover back on, reconnected everything, powered up, and voila! IT WORKS!
I checked it out with a test scan of a scrap slide, and everything seems to
be OK.
Hope this helps someone who gets into the same fix....
