Re: [APML] NEW SprintScan Problem, was: SprintScan 35Plus settings

Hi Dale and Sean:

Thanks for your input. Looks like a difference of opinion here,
Sean says
"I would recommend doing all stretching inside the Polacolor software
because
once you save the image it gets reduced from 12 bits per channel to 8 bits
per channel so you loose precision. Polacolor also makes much better use of
the histogram than Photoshop because you can watch the histogram change as
you tweak the level and curve settings."

and Dale says

"> With astro images the best way to start is to select "RAW" as the film
type.

I'll try both methods and see what results I get AFTER I get the scanner
working again!

I've got a NEW PROBLEM: in trying to reset to the default settings, I failed
to note that the media type had reset to "Superslide." When I then tried to
do a preview with the negative strip holder loaded, the scanner tried to
lower the window out the bottom of the machine---just kept running till it
stopped and it won't come back up. Resetting to color negative medium,
powering on and off, restarting the program, etc, nothing will release the
carrier from that bottom position. Motor keeps humming and then quits. BTW,
I'm running the scanner with the latest PolaColor Insight 5.0.025 downloaded
from the Polaroid website, SS+ selected, with Win2000 Pro and an Adaptec
1480 Cardbus scsi adapter in my laptop.
Anyone know of a physical reset switch or release button for the carrier
mechanism inside the case? Or is there a software reset that I've missed? I
hate to have to send the scanner back after just getting it.

Thanks again....
Bert
