[APML] SprintScan 35Plus settings

Hi List:
Having moved up from an HP SmartScan to the Polaroid SprintScan 35+, I'm
confused by the plethora of available settings in PolaColor Insight.
Specifically,

1. in scanning a film that is not listed in the drop-down set of film types
("color negative," "Kodak Gold 200," "Kodak Ektapress PJ800," etc), what is
the best way to determine the closest profile? I have some test shots of M31
and M8 on Konica 800 and Agfa Optima 400-2. When I scan these with the
"color negative" profile, I get scan previews that look very blue and the
histogram shows the blue peak moved to higher intensities than the green and
red peaks. When I scan with the PJ800 profile, I get preview scans that look
much more balanced and the histogram shows the R, G, and B peaks pretty much
superimposed. However, when I now import the scans into Photoshop, the
bluish scans are much easier to stretch and color balance than are the scans
done with the PJ800 profile that looked balanced in the preview.

2. WHat sort of criteria do you use for determining the "lightness"
parameter? Can you rely on the automatic setting that PolaColor produces? It
looks too dark. Can you set it to produce some ideal luminance value in the
histogram window?

3. When I open these scans in Photoshop, it asks what color management setup
to use. It sets the Adobe 1998 setup as default and I've been accepting
that. Should I opt for "no color management"? It doesn't look any different
when the image opens.

I'll check out the websites for photographers tomorrow if I have time but I
thought you folks would probably know the answers already <G>. Thanks for
any advice...
