Re: [APML] Another intro (CG-9.25)

Hi Jeff,

I own the C9.25 on a G-9 mount. Regarding the optical quality of the C9.25 I
can confirm what has been said by other list members. The optical quality is
fine. The primary mirror is slower than that of a C8 and I read or heard
that Celestron redesigned their SCT-design for the C9.25 to achieve a
flatter field. On the other hand the focal reducer/field flattener works (it
reduces the focal length at least) but may not be the optimum design for the
different field curvature compared to the other Celestron SCTs. The mount is
OK to handle the C9.25 plus a camera and some accessories. But it should be
mounted on a pier or a very sturdy tripod. The aluminium tripod that is sold
with the mount is not sturdy enough for astrophotography or visual observing
if it is windy. Be sure that the mount has two bolts to lock the
altitude/elevation of the mount. Mine has only one that cannot be tightened
enough and there is some play. Nevertheless it is a great mount and if you
know its shortcomings you can work around them. I am very happy with my
CG-9.25.
