Re: [APML] A modest effort

Hi Matt & Bert,

Matt, sounds like you had a decent run at the WHT. My 5 nights at the INT
were mediocre, really - seeing varied between 1.5" at best to nearly 6" at
worst. We had some shocking Sahara dust to contend with as well. Longer
exposures than planned, hence I had time to wander round taking photographs!

> The little jog in the star track is a problem

Yes, and I can't work out where it came from. I didn't cover the lens at
all, and I can't have kicked the tripod otherwise the rest of the shot would
have suffered, surely? I do have another shot from the same angle which has
decent star trails, but it was a little bit underexposed.

> Did you take any much longer exposures (to get longer trails)?

Yes, I tried some exposures of many hours, but even at f/22 the sky drowned
out all but the brightest star trails. That was on 50 speed film as well.

Were it not for the jogs in the star trails I'd be a lot happier with this
shot. Still, exposure was about right and I do like the look of those
clouds.

Cheers,
Roger
