RE: [APML] Hypering Kit...
Hi,
I just got the 600 kit, and am still learning, but a couple of suggestions.
Forget the Lumicon temperature regulator and probe, instead make your own
variable regulator - if your even 'slightly' handy, it's pretty easy from
parts at radio shack and you'll save a lot of money - plus you'll have the
benefit of having variable temperature controller, instead of either 30C or
50C. I'm now hypering at 45C. All the parts cost around $30 - complete plans
are available at the designers web site:
http://web2.airmail.net/capella/tempschem.htm
I built mine last month, and it works *very* well.....
If you store your film, you can store it in the hyper chamber itself, if you
remove it from the chamber, it's probably a good idea to store it with
desiccant - you can buy large containers of desiccant at craft stores -
it's called silica gel - they sell it as 'flower drying crystals'.
I live in Michigan too, and I think it's probably very important to dry
purge - it preserves the hypering sensitivity, and helps prevent film curl
during an exposure. For using hypered film over a couple of nights - store
your cameras (with film inside) inside an air tight Tupperware container
with desiccant until the next nights use.
I just hypered LE400 at 45C in the cartridge for 7 hours with good results.

| Hi all APML'rs !
| I'm thinking about buying a Lumicon model 300 hypering kit.
| I have been sifting through the APML archives for 2 days
| and reading as much as I can. I have a few questions about
| it though.
| 1) From what I can tell from the archives, it looks like to
| hyper PJ or LE 400 left in the cartridge, It looks like
| hypering times of 5-6 hrs at 50 C. And Tech Pan left in the
| cartridge about 90hrs at 50 C. Are these figures accurate
| from your experiences? I don't know weather I should get the
| 30 C or 50 C temperature controller.
| 2) And is gas purge necessary for PJ and LE 400 or just the Tech Pan?
| 3) With Michigan weather the way it is, if I hyper a roll of
| color film and don't get the clear nights forecast, after 1
| month in the freezer can you re-hyper it? Lumicon says it
| looses speed after about a months storage in the freezer so
| I'm going by what they have said although I don't know if
| it's accurate.
|
| Thanks for all your help!
