[APML] Image Processing Article: SMI and PIP; Exponential Transforms



Hi all
 
I wrote an article about what we in the PTeam called "Exponential Transforms". Perhaps many of you know the SMI technique (Screen-Mask-Invert) that described Jerry in his book. Here a present a new technique called PIP that works in a very similar way and may add new image processing alternatives to you.
 
For those not familiar with them, the main idea behind the Exponential Transforms (as a generalization of the SMI and PIP functions) is that you combine your image with a convoluted version of it, resulting in enhanced shadows, and increased contrast between dark features, avoiding noise amplification...
