I have found that Nikon's
teleconverter's are excellent and it is very difficult to tell the
difference between the quality of an image done with the prime lens and the
image done with the teleconverter.
I've used my 300mm f2.8 ED with the
TC301 (2x) and TC14B (1.4x) with excellent results.
Nikon's
teleconverters are made for specific focal length ranges and should be used
as such.
My guess is that the newer Nikon and Canon converters will
be be same.
