Hi again,

A point I should have mentioned before....
The Nikors will of course fit the D70 without the need of an adapter,
but Nikon has a twist to their file formats that digital astrophotographers
are not entirely happy with. The RAW format, that is the pure "unmodified"
image data from the sensor, is actually processed to some extent in the D70
and is not actually a true RAW format. You have to do tricks and jump
through hoops to fool the camera into giving you true RAW format.

When selecting between the Canon and Nikon, you might weigh that into the
equation; the D70 offers easier lens compatibility but at the expense of
preprocessed RAW format that has already lost some of your image data.

Don't get me wrong, the D70 is capable of outstanding photography,
but high-end purists who do serious astrophotography may want to weigh this
factor in.
