Philip -the two lenses will work on your D70 without any tricks. I have a
D70 and have put my 180mm ED lens on it. You use the manual focus setting
and the blinking dot in the viewfinder tells you when you are at focus - a
feature that does NOT work on my scope for some reason - anyone know why? I
have not tried it for astro photography though.

I am sure the adapter for Canon will work with the Rebel but someone with
one should confirm it.
