[APML] Dew Strap question

Our Messier marathon is this Saturday and so far the Clear Sky Clock for
the observing grounds says it's going to be perfect! Atleast as far as 7:pm
as it hasn't updated past that yet. Friday early morning till daylight and
again Saturday early morning till daylight the humidity is going to be high
in the 95% range so I can assume Saturday night through till daylight is
going to be the same, Daylight humidity is going to be in the 50% range. My
plans are not to participate in the marathon but to take the opportunity to
capture long exposure shots of the participants complete with the red
flashlight streaks and ghost images of the moving scopes and people, I'm
just guessing at no more then 10 or 15 minutes at a time since I've never
done this before. I'm also going to take some star trails shots.

Question for the experienced...
With the high humidity I'm assuming the lens will dew over. I have a
non output adjustable Orion 12v dew strap for an 8" scope and will bring a
12v battery. I'm thinking of wrapping the strap around the (28, 50, 135,
and/or 80-200mm) lens once and letting the excess strap dangle. Is this a
dangerous thing to do as far as damage to the camera, lens, or film?
