I haven't had time to try cinepaint, and although I am a Linux user for
the most part, I actually run VMWare to get Picture Window Pro for my
processing (I already have to have VMWare to run Windows for my day
job). PWP is not free, but it's a lot less expensive the PhotoShop and
I find it more than adequate for my needs. I have found a few things
awkward to do in PWP, but not many. In fact so few, that I can't
immediately recall what they were....
I do end up using the GIMP for all my final annotations which mostly
means text at this point, but sometimes a few minor adjustments, too.
The 8-bits/channel is the primary reason I don't use it for all my
processing.
