[APML] HELP! Anyone care to give these shots a try?

Hey all,

Here's a couple of shots I've been trying to make progress on, and just
can't seem to get much out of either. For anyone interested, I've taken
the raw tiff scans and converted them to '9' quality jpegs. 

M78 is a 185 minute shot taken on Dec 14 on SHQ200. There is an ugly
diffraction pattern on the lower right side. I'm unsure where it came
from or what caused it. I'd be interested in hearing if there is a
method for removing something like this. It's here:

IC 443 was taken on 3/6/05 and is 210 minutes on Provia400F. Same deal,
raw scan converted to jpeg. The basic info has been uploaded with each
shot.

I'd love to hear of any methods, techniques, tricks, whatever I could
use to make these look decent.
