RE: [APML] OT: printing with icc profiles from Adobe PS 6.0 toepson2200p
Hi Rick,
It sounds like you may be "double profiling" somehow.
Here are a few things to check.
First, assuming you are using the Monaco to calibrate/profile your monitor,
be sure to disable Adobe Gamma (it installs automatically when you install
photoshop and is usually in the system start-up routine).
Second, be sure that Photoshop is recognizing your Monaco monitor profile.
Go to Edit > Color Settings. On one of the drop-down dialog boxes (Working
Spaces RGB) click on the drop down arrow and examine the profiles that
appear. Somewhere in the list your should see "Monitor RGB - xxxxxxxxx".
The x's should be the name of the custom monitor profile you generated. Be
sure not to accidentally change your RGB working space to your monitor
profile (that is not a good idea - it's better to use a standard editing
working space such as Adobe RGB 1998).
Third, you are on the right track with the print settings in Photoshop. I
don't have PS 6 on my machines anymore, but with PS 7 and CS you access
printer color management with File > Print with Preview. Check the "Show
More Options" checkbox to access printer color management settings:
1. Set your Source space to "Document: Adobe RGB (1998)" (if you use a
different editing/working color space, that one will appear here)
2. Under "Print Space Profile" select your custom printer profile. DO NOT
SELECT "SAME AS SOURCE".
3. Select the proper rendering intent. This may relate specifically to
your custom (or non-custom) profile. Generally Relative Colorimetric or
Perceptual are used for photographs. However, some profile devices utilize
Saturation. If in doubt, select Relative Colorimetric. If that comes out
badly, try Saturation.
4. Check "Use Black Point Compensation".
Photoshop is now set up to manage the color conversions from your document
working space to the printer color space.
Now select "Page Setup" and then "Printer" to access the Epson 2200 software
controls. In the Epson dialog box, select the "Advanced" setting. Choose
"ICM" and then right below that choose "No Color Adjustment". This
instructs the printer NOT to perform any color management coversions (since
we have told Photoshop to do it).
That's it.
Good luck with it.
