Try This...
If your full-res files have no embedded color profile, *Assign* a high gamut 'Working' color space, such as RGB Adobe '98. By using 'Assign Profile', you won't change any color data or effect the appearence of the image. In Photoshop and Picture Window Pro, you can set your preferences to automatically assign color space, or prompt you when an image has no profile, or a profile other than 'Working' color space.
Once the image has the 'Working' profile embedded, resize for Web display. If the full-res image file is 48 bits, I seem to get best results by *Converting* to sRGB while still in 48 bit mode, then convert to 24 bits, and 'Save As' JPEG. If the image is 24 bit to start with, 'Convert' to sRGB then 'Save As' JPEG.
The important thing here is the difference in *Assign* and *Convert*... first 'Assign' the working color space, resize, *then* 'Convert' to sRGB. This works best for me in both PS and PW.
Best... :o)
